Germany in turn announces the expulsion of the Chadian ambassador

With our correspondent in Berlin, Pascal Thibaut

A reaction from Berlin was predictable. She was quick. The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the Chadian ambassador to Germany, Mariam Ali Moussa, and informed her that she had to leave the country within 48 hours. Berlin regretted having to come to this, criticizing “ unjustified expulsion ” of German Ambassador to Chad.

Ndjamena announced on Friday that Jan-Christian Gordon Kricke was also to leave his post within two days to ” attitude discourtoise » et « failure to respect diplomatic customs “. The experienced German diplomat, who knows the region well, had regularly criticized human rights abuses, including the crackdown on protests last fall. The German ambassador had insisted on the holding of free elections.

The German Foreign Ministry paid tribute to the diplomat on Twitter, referring to his ” exemplary work in Chad “. Berlin therefore does not seem to want to minimize its criticism of Ndjamena to calm an unprecedented diplomatic crisis.
