German industrial orders rose more than expected in January, supported by strong foreign demand, official statistics showed on Monday.
Factory orders rose 1.8% in January seasonally adjusted after rising 3% (revised upwards) in December, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office.
Retail sales in Germany, also released on Monday, for their part partially recovered in January after a (revised) 4.6% fall in December, despite the health restrictions still in force that month to counter the wave. infections linked to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Retail sales in Germany rose 2% over the month in real terms, while economists polled by Archyde.com had forecast a 1.8% rise.
