Germany announces delivery of Leopard 2 tank Ukraine… Re-export is also approved

The German government officially announced support for Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine on the 25th.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in a statement, “This decision follows our well-known line of supporting Ukraine to the fullest extent of our abilities. We are acting in a closely coordinated manner internationally.”

Germany plans to send its first tank company, consisting of a total of 14 Leopard 2 tanks from its own stockpile.

The German government aims to provide Ukraine with two tank battalions, usually consisting of three or four companies, in the future.

Germany has also authorized allies that operate Leopard 2 tanks to send them to Ukraine.

In order to re-export the Leopard 2 tank, approval from Germany, the country of manufacture, is required.

Poland and Finland had previously promised to provide Leopard 2 tanks if Germany agreed.

Meanwhile, the US is ready to begin the process of sending dozens of M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, Archyde.com reported on the 25th, citing multiple US officials.
