According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Berlin, the German Chancellor’s Office on January 17 announced that the German President would appoint him Boris Pistorius, Minister of the Interior of Lower Saxonyas the new Defense Minister, replacing Ms. Christine Lambrecht – who had just resigned the day before.
Boris Pistorius was born in 1960 in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony. He joined the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in 1976; From 2017 until now, he has been a member of the Presidium of the Federalist Party of the SPD, a member of the Lower Saxony Parliament.
He served as Mayor of the city of Osnabrück and since 2013 as Minister of the Interior and Sports of Lower Saxony. Mr. Pistorius is considered an experienced, insightful, outspoken and fierce politician.
During the election campaigns and coalition negotiations of the SPD, he made many contributions to shaping the party’s political line.
The appointment of Mr. Pistorius as the new Defense Minister to replace her Christina Lambrecht resigned with the support of Berlin’s leaders.
Prime Minister Olaf Scholz rated Boris Pistorius as an excellent politician, who is very experienced, has been tested for a long time in many positions. With many years of experience in charge of security policy and “with his capacity, determination and kind heart,” Mr. German government affirmed to be the very suitable person to lead the German army to overcome the current challenge.
European Parliament (EP) Vice President Katarina Barley called the new Minister Pistorius “one of the best” of the SPD. She expressed satisfaction with Mr Pistorius’ appointment as defense minister and affirmed that “the German army deserves this”, and that Germany needs Minister Pistorius in this difficult time.
It is expected that Mr. Pistorius will be officially appointed and sworn in on January 19. After taking office, an agenda full of content awaits him in his new position.
