  • The qualifying groups for the EM 2024 in Germany will be drawn on Sunday.

  • But the Nati is in pot 1 and avoids some heavyweights.

  • Nevertheless, coach Murat Yakin’s team might be assigned a difficult group.

  • 20 minutes paints the different scenarios.

It’s a pleasure for fans, it causes stress in the busy football calendar – and above all it’s a reality: the 2022 Winter World Cup is one highlight following the other. Because only 18 months following Qatar, the European Championship will follow in June 2024 in Germany.

Who can fight for the European football crown in Berlin, Munich or Hamburg as the successor to title holder Italy will be determined in the usual qualifying tournament from March 2023. The qualifying groups will be drawn this Sunday from 12 p.m. (live on 20 minutes).

Because the Nati was able to keep the class in the Nations League, the team of coach Murat Yakin (48) is in pot 1. “The listing in pot 1 shows the consistently good work of the last few years,” says the SFV. And: “This can ultimately be a decisive advantage.” Nevertheless, even in the current constellation, a few tough chunks are waiting – even if the group winners and runners-up qualify directly. 20 minutes paints three scenarios.

The Horror Group

Switzerland is in the top 1. That means: heavyweights like Spain, Italy or Portugal are avoided. But be careful: Pot 2 in particular with world champion France or European Championship finalist England is tough. The following group might threaten with the most unpleasant opponents of the remaining pots:

Switzerland, France, Ukraine, Turkey, Slovakia

The Schoggi group

With a bit of luck in the draw, the Nati might tackle a campaign as the absolute favorites, especially because they are directly qualified as runners-up in the group. Probably the simplest configuration would look like this:

Switzerland, Scotland, Armenia, Luxembourg, Gibraltar

The exotic group

If not easy, then at least exciting opponents and great or rare away trips for the fans should look out in the qualification. There are also very interesting options here. An example:

Switzerland, Israel, Iceland, Georgia, Malta

If the national team is drawn into one of the three groups of six, the opponents would still come from pot 6 Andorra, San Marino or Liechtenstein added. From Sunday we will know which scenario is most likely to apply. Until then we ask you:
