A trip to the Zwieselalm ended on Monday followingnoon for a pensioner from Germany in the hospital: The 73-year-old and his partner had taken the Gosaukammbahn to the alpine pasture area at around 1500 meters above sea level. After a tour and a stop at the Gablonzerhütte, the couple descended the marked hiking trail in the direction of the Vorderer Gosausee. The accident happened: A little above the herb garden hut, the man slipped on a larger stone and fell backwards to the ground. He sustained such serious injuries that he might no longer walk.
The man’s partner and hikers who happened to be present provided first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. Four members of the Gosau Mountain Rescue Service climbed up, while the crew of the emergency medical helicopter also set off. The injured man was rescued with a rope and, following a stopover at Lake Gosau, brought to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Bad Ischl. The mountain rescuers accompanied the man’s partner into the valley.
