Inferno at Ballermann! 13 men from Germany celebrate a boozy party on their hotel balcony. There is drinking and smoking – but instead of putting the butts out in the ashtrays, the tourists flick the butts onto the terrace roof of the “Why Not” bar.
Apparently, that didn’t just happen unintentionally – the Ballermann tourists are said to have poured alcohol on it. The reed roof caught fire, according to media reports, the flames damaged the restaurant and another one, as well as an apartment and the hotel. Two people were slightly injured!
The responsible investigating judge in Palma ordered the tourists to be held in custody without the right to bail, as the newspaper “Diario de Mallorca” and other regional media reported late Saturday evening, citing the judiciary of the Spanish Mediterranean island. A judicial spokesman confirmed this information on Sunday when asked.
No more restrictions
The Germans arrested on Friday evening are said to have exercised their right not to testify during their interrogation by the judge on Saturday. The judge assumes “shared responsibility”, wrote “Diario de Mallorca”. It was initially unclear where the arrested people came from in Germany.
Ballermann is currently being celebrated as wildly as it was before the corona pandemic. There are practically no longer any restrictions on the island. In the past few weeks, there have been more fights and thefts in the German holiday hotspot. (SDA/neo)
