According to local media, following the body of a 62-year-old German was found in the Thai seaside resort of Pattaya, a German suspect was also arrested. The investigators found the man wanted by arrest warrant on Tuesday evening in the capital Bangkok, the news portals “The Pattaya News”, “The Thaiger” and “Khaosod” reported unanimously.
He and two other suspects are accused of being involved in the killing of the businessman and of trying to hide his body. The body of the 62-year-old, who had been missing since the beginning of July, was found on Monday on a property in Nong Prue in Pattaya (Chonburi province) – dismembered in a freezer. The Thai police had previously questioned the arrested German regarding the disappearance of the man and released him once more.
According to the media, the investigators finally targeted three main suspects with the help of surveillance camera recordings. In addition to the German, this included a woman from Germany, who was accompanied by a lawyer at a police station in Pattaya on Tuesday, and, according to the media, a 27-year-old man of Pakistani origin who is said to have helped transport the body.
According to investigators, the businessman’s death is said to be related to extortion. The murder had been planned and well prepared by the gang for over a month, “Khaosod” quoted the deputy chief of the national police, Surachate Hakparn. A total of three million baht (78,230 euros) were transferred from the 62-year-old’s account to ten target accounts. This allows the authorities to assume that there are other possible participants in the conspiracy.
Pattaya attracts visitors from all over the world to the Southeast Asian country mainly because of its nightlife. Many Germans also live permanently in the area on the Gulf of Thailand.
