The retailer Müller takes over the toy store chain Franz Carl Weber (FCW). The iconic Swiss group thus passes into German hands, confirmed to AWP Marcel Tobler, chairman of the board of directors of FCW.
The amount of the transaction is confidential, said Marcel Tobler. The operation was first revealed by the economic weekly Handelszeitung.
FCW will continue to operate under its name and the network of subsidiaries will be retained. The company, founded in 1881, now has around twenty stores and approximately 200 employees. “For the customer, nothing will change,” he promised.
Franz Carl Weber had been acquired in 2018 by its management from the French group Ludendo, owner of the La Grande Récré stores and then in receivership in France. Marcel Tobler then entered the capital, taking control of half of the shares of FCW.
Like other stationary retail players, the chain of stores has been hit during the pandemic, suffering a loss of 2 million francs in 2020 due to health restrictions and closures.
