According to the federal government, networked IT systems in Germany are at greater risk than ever before. The situation report from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), presented in Berlin on Thursday, sees a growing danger from software vulnerabilities, for example. “During the reporting period, 68 new vulnerabilities in software products were registered every day – around 24 percent more than in the previous reporting period.” It is worrying that 15 percent of the vulnerabilities are classified as critical. Hackers who systematically search for and exploit these vulnerabilities might cause significant damage. “The threat in cyberspace is higher than ever before,” is the BSI’s conclusion. “And the threat situation in cyberspace will continue to grow,” added BSI President Claudia Plattner.
