German government decided to send thousands of anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine

The German federal government decided to supply more weapons to the Ukrainian military forces. The ministry of economic affairs approved the delivery of 2,700 “Strela” anti-aircraft missiles. The defense ministry had been trying for days to deliver more weapons to the Ukrainian forces.

After the type of weapons was defined, foreign affairs authorized the shipment. The final shipment is different from the one that had been initially evaluated. The missiles were produced during the Cold War and are former stocks of the National People’s Army of the former German Democratic Republic.

Already on Saturday the German government decided to hand over 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 “Stinger” surface-to-air missiles for Ukraine. Berlin officials explained that the rocket-propelled grenades had already been delivered to Kiev. The Netherlands and Estonia were also authorized to supply weapons to Ukraine.
