“Israel has the full solidarity of Germany. Iran has brought an entire region to the brink of chaos. The condemnation of almost the entire world, the support for Israel from the US and the United Kingdom and from part of the region shows that Iran is isolated. Israel is strong and can defend itself,” she added.

Baerbock’s statements come following representatives of several parties in parliament called for a stronger attitude towards Iran from both the German government and the EU.

Likewise, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated earlier that the attack launched on Saturday by Iran once morest Israel is “unjustifiable and extremely irresponsible,” while warning Tehran that it “risks further escalation” in the Middle East.

Iran launched hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles once morest Israel this Saturday in retaliation for the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, in which seven members of the Revolutionary Guard and six Syrian citizens died. Almost all of the drones and missiles were intercepted by Israel and its allies.

The G7 heads of state and government will also hold a video conference this Sunday followingnoon “to discuss the Iranian attack once morest Israel,” announced the Italian government, which currently chairs the group of major Western powers.

“The Italian presidency of the G7 convened a video conference of leaders today, early in the followingnoon,” the Italian government said in a brief statement.

The G7 is made up of Italy, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan.

The UN Security Council also plans to meet this Sunday in the wake of the attack, which led United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to condemn “a serious escalation.”

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned “in the strongest possible terms the unprecedented attack launched by Iran once morest Israel” and called for “restraint” from the parties involved, according to a message published on the X social network on Sunday.

The head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni, also condemned the attack and expressed her “great concern regarding further destabilization of the region.”

Israel’s anti-aircraft defenses functioned successfully in the face of the unprecedented Iranian attack and ensured that it managed to intercept, with the help of its allies, 99% of the more than 300 drones and missiles launched into its territory. But regional tensions continue, amid fears of further escalation in the event of a possible Israeli counterattack.

The two rivals have been waging a covert war for years, characterized by incidents such as the Damascus attack. But the escalation of tensions this Sunday, which caused air raid sirens to sound throughout Israel, constituted Iran’s first direct military aggression once morest Israel, despite decades of enmity that began with the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Over the years, Israel has established a multi-layered air defense network that includes systems capable of intercepting various threats, such as long-range missiles, cruise missiles, drones and short-range rockets.

That system, along with its collaboration with U.S. and other forces, helped thwart what would have been a much more devastating attack at a time when Israel is already embroiled in a war once morest Hamas in the Gaza Strip and It fights low-level fighting on its northern border with the Lebanese militia Hezbollah.
