German drug investigators found 590 kilos of cocaine in banana crates

The Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) said the drug had a street value in the mid double-digit million range. The LKA did not provide any information about the origin of the drugs.

The company informed the police last Wednesday because suspicious packages were seen on two pallets with banana boxes. The drugs were distributed across a total of 33 boxes. Customs officers were also involved in the seizure of the cocaine. The riot police secured the operation.

The Leipzig public prosecutor’s office is investigating the illicit trade in narcotics in large quantities. A joint investigation group made up of officers from the Dresden Customs Investigation Office and the State Criminal Police Office is now looking into the case.
