Skipper wanted to avoid Berlusconi’s boat
Mask millionaire († 61) dies in a yacht crash in Sardinia
On Sunday evening, the 21-meter-long “Amore” collided with rocks protruding from the water near the Nibani Islands. Boat owner Dean Kronsbein is thrown overboard. His wife and daughter are taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The family was riding the wave of happiness – until that fateful Sunday evening. The CEO of Ultrafilter Medical Ltd., Dean Kronsbein († 61), had made a fortune with his ultra-thin corona masks in Great Britain. He bought a villa on the Costa Smeralda and the proud yacht “Amore”. On August 1st, the family set sail for a spin.
It’s 8:45 p.m. The entrepreneur’s 21 meter long Magnum yacht passes the small Nibani Islands off Porto Cervo in the twilight. Suddenly the skipper turns the steering wheel. The ship crashes into a rock sticking out of the water. On impact, Dean Kronsbein is thrown overboard. Another four people are injured. The bow is dented. The yacht begins to sink.
Three yachts at the same time in the same place
“Mayday” follows just five minutes later. Two other yachts are quickly on the spot and provide first aid. One luxury ship is the “Sweet Dragon” owned by Silvio Berlusconi’s (85) family. Her role in the accident is currently being investigated by investigative authorities. There is a suspicion that the “Amore” pushed the “Sweet Dragon” aside.
The crews take care of the injured, pull the masked millionaire out of the water and bring the victims of the accident to the port of Porto Cervo. There, the emergency doctor and paramedics try to resuscitate Kronsbein. The native German with a British passport dies on the quay. His daughter (27) comes immediately to neurosurgery at a special clinic in Sassari, 90 kilometers away. She will have head surgery on Tuesday morning. Kronsbein’s wife (59) suffers numerous broken bones and remains in the hospital in Olbia. As soon as the state of health allows, the two women are to be flown to a private clinic in Great Britain.
Prosecutors are investigating involuntary manslaughter
Meanwhile, the Sardinian police and prosecutors are investigating manslaughter and bodily harm. The two skippers of the “Amore” and the Berlusconi ship “Sweet Dragon” are in their sights. In an initial interview, the captain of the Kronsbein yacht said he steered the ship to the left to avoid a collision with the “Sweet Dragon”. He didn’t see the rock. The Italian media reported. Apparently, both yachts were going in the same direction, but then came too close. The commander of the North Coast Guard, Giovanni Canu, also suspected increased speed in an interview with “Unione Sarda”.
An autopsy on Dean Kronsbein’s body is expected to determine the cause of his death on Friday. According to initial findings, the mask millionaire died of cardiac arrest. A family doctor will be present at the autopsy. Speaking to the “Daily Mail”, the family’s lawyer, Egidio Caredda, says: “It’s a shock for the family”. They want clarity regarding Dean Kronsbein’s death.
