Welcoming words from Mayor Regine Rist were intended for 15 schoolchildren and five schoolchildren from Lombard, Illinois. As part of the German-American-Partnership student exchange program, they stayed in Tettnang for two weeks and were warmly welcomed in the town hall. The students will be accompanied by teachers Kristie Henry and Jackson Howenstine.

Exchange has existed for a proud 15 years

At the reception in the Knights’ Hall with drinks and snacks, Regine Rist told some things regarding the city and presented each student with a personal certificate and a drinking bottle. Thank you to the city of Tettnang.

The student exchange between German and American schools has existed at the Montfort-Gymnasium since 2008. This year it is being organized by the teachers Miriam Brand and Esther Wagner, who are fully committed to ensuring that international relations are resumed following the Corona break.

Corona thwarts the calculation

Unfortunately, the German students might not make the trip across the pond in autumn 2022 because of the pandemic. One is therefore particularly grateful to the Tettnang host families, who were nevertheless willing to take in the American students.

First Montfort-Gymnasium, then Meersburg

They take an active part in the lessons at the Montfort-Gymnasium and “would have fitted in perfectly with everyday life in Germany”, praised Miriam Brand. An attractive program is planned for leisure time. So far, the students have particularly enjoyed a trip to picturesque Meersburg. In addition, it goes to the pledge, and visits to Konstanz and Ravensburg are still pending.

German ancestors at Mackenzie Huber

Many students already speak German quite well. Some have visited Berlin and other German cities. German ancestors can also be recognized in the names, such as Mackenzie Huber, who is housed with the family of Lisa and Anne Block and gets on well with the sisters.

Next destination: the Universities of Illinois

The age of the students is between 16 and 18 years, whereby the majority is already of legal age. Benjamin, German, Eva and Hannah are graduating from high school this year and will then be scattered around different universities in Illinois.
