Gergő Szekér revealed why he accepted his gayness

The singer Gergő Szekér spoke for the first time in Reggeli last week regarding being gay. It bothered him terribly that he mightn’t say things, part of it was that he had been consciously referring to his love as “my partner” for some time. His situation was also made more difficult by the fact that he was afraid of the consequences: mainly because he would lose his job and his livelihood would be in danger. He confirmed his fears by hearing negative stories from his circle of friends. He, on the other hand, has only received positive messages so far.

According to the singer, as long as you’re in it, you don’t even realize how much of a burden secrecy puts on you. Previously, he and his management had to come up with stories that portrayed him as heterosexual.

It was an awful big lie and it was very unpleasant for me. But I thought I would take on this role in order to be able to make my own music. It was a sacrifice for me, and I thought sacrifices were natural

– said Gergő Szekér, who added: there is a price if we are honest, but if we don’t say it, it will also have a price.

He doesn’t want to be a pillar of flame, but “if you’re never a Petőfi, freedom will never come.”
