In line with the economic announcements of the National Government, the governor of Santiago del Estero, Gerardo Zamorahe did not want to be left behind and went much further: he announced this Monday a salary increase emergency $55 mil and a $400,000 bonus to be paid in four installmentsfor all the public workers of the province, from September.
Zamora indicated that these measures are “in recognition of the inflationary economic situation that has been generating a drop in wages, in the purchasing power of everyone’s pocket, and fundamentally affects workers.”
The announcements of Santiago del Estero are given 24 hours after those of Sergio Massa at the national level, although with a significant difference in the amounts and also has the workers of the provincial government as the only beneficiaries.
What do economists think about the measures announced by Massa after the devaluation?
“We have agreed on an emergency salary recomposition, which is remunerative and non-refundable, that is, with retirement and blank contributions, of $55,000 per month with September’s salary,” announced the governor of Santiago.
In this sense, he explained that this salary increase “impact on all employees, even hired, permanent staff and teachers with up to two positions (who will be charged twice)”. While for workers with service lease contracts the increase will be $32 thousand pesos.
The bonus of 400 thousand pesos for the state workers of Santiago del Estero
Regarding the year-end bonus, he indicated that it will be $400,000, in 4 installments of 100,000 pesos each; the first installment will be paid on September 7, the second will be effective on October 17, the third on November 14, and the last on December 7.
Zamora, who made the announcement in the Government House agreement room, together with the representatives of the different unions and the head of the local CGT, José Gómez, pointed out that the provincial government will be in charge of paying the almost 16 thousand municipal employees of the province the bonus of $400 thousand.
“Los municipal workers will collect the bonus along with provincial employees“, he said and asked the mayors and municipal commissioners to “see, within their possibilities, to carry out a salary recomposition, we hope that they make that effort, so that there is the greatest equality among all employees.”
Zamora emphasized that these improvements “are going to imply a strong investment on the part of the provincial government, since several days ago we were rearranging all the financial parameters so that it reaches thousands of public employees, teachers and all sectors, and in this way we can reach the end of the year without the pocket of the workers of Santiago del Estero feeling affected”.
In addition, he pointed out that “this effort also benefits business and private activity.”
Likewise, he sentenced: “We are not going to stop doing public works or all the parameters that we have budgeted, which have to do with health, education, culture, sports, tourism and also with infrastructure works.”
Therefore, he remarked: “We believe that with these measures we are beating inflationand it is good news for the economy in general of our province”.

He also thanked “the good will for dialogue and understanding that all the representatives at our dialogue table have, which is already 17 years old, and that results in social peace and the possibility of generating more clarity and predictability in each of the homes.”
Zamora also reported that the bonus will be paid on December 21, and the salary on December 28 and “in January we will meet again to discuss the salary guideline” for next year.
The president remarked that these improvements imply “an effort that is worthwhile”, where “the people of Santiago discuss independently, trying to find the best for the province, with our own funds, with our own possibilities and always thanks to the efforts of all the Santiago workers.
“This shows that the state works”, he emphasized and in this regard stated that “There is so much talk about the ills of the State, that it should disappear, that these liberal ideas emerge from time to time, but I always say that behind every public employee there is a teacher, a nurse”.
