The best winemaker in the world who is rampant in Languedoc? This is a hypothesis that would have amused Burgundians and Bordeaux residents 40 years ago, when wines from the South of France were highly despised by the profession. Often rightly so, with their lack of demands and the large quantities given to cooperatives to mill piquette. But the region was able to carry out an unexpected transformation for a change of image which it owes in large part to Gérard Bertrand, native of Narbonne, and therefore consecrated planetary hero in 2023 by the British magazine The Drinks Business. The fruit of four decades of hard work, extraordinary instinct and an invigorating communion with nature.

We don’t dare break the ice, for this first meeting, by mentioning his disturbing resemblance to Vincent Cassel, as we imagine that he has heard it every day for years. The two men are the same age, and without insulting the eternal masculine appearance of the actor of Hate, our winegrower friend evolves two spheres above. By his size, already, he who points close to the double meter bar, carried by his build as a former rugby third row – although we have been warned, we shrink as he approaches. He has this energy that is as contagious as it is intimidating, between lightning and magnetism. And then this astonishing look, sometimes almost 180 degrees, which gives the impression that it can embrace almost everything.
