OSLO (Archyde.com) – The world’s largest aircraft carrier, the US Navy’s Gerald R. Ford, docked in the Norwegian capital Oslo for the first time on Thursday.

Participating in NATO military exercises amid rising tensions between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Russia over the Ukraine war.

The Norwegian military said the exercises would take place on the Norwegian coast over the next few days. “This visit is an important signal of the close bilateral relationship between the United States and Norway, as well as the credibility of collective defense and deterrence,” said an army spokesman.

The Russian embassy in Oslo condemned the arrival of the aircraft carrier. “There are no problems in the (Arctic) North that require a military solution and no subjects that require external intervention,” he wrote on Facebook.

Norway is a member of NATO.
