Something… unexpected was recorded in Karpenisi, during the visit of the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, to the local hospital.
The Minister of Health was waiting outside the hospital by protesters demanding recruitment in the Health Department. As Adonis Georgiadis mentions in his post on X, formerly Twitter, the protesters were “members of PAME“.
A protester, who was holding a banner, said at one point to the health minister: “ahh, you’re actually much more beautiful up close.” Then Mr. Georgiadis leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. “We can fight, but we are no longer enemies,” notes the health minister in his post.
Adonis Georgiadis’s post:
The most humane moment of today’s protest of the “misery gang” at the Karpenisi Hospital was this. They have gathered there at PAME and they are cursing me (as usual) I am cool (not as usual) and then a protester holding a banner says to me: “ahh you are actually much more beautiful in person…” I answer her: “this comment she deserves a kiss” and I lean down and kiss her behind the banner, me in front… her “companions” shouted at her a bit afterwards for the good reason she told me, but I thank her nonetheless! Ok we can fight but we are not enemies anymore mercy….

**Interview with Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Health**
**Interviewer:** Good day, Minister Georgiadis. Thank you for joining us today. Your recent visit to the Karpenisi Hospital sparked quite a reaction. Can you tell us about your experience during the protest?
**Adonis Georgiadis:** Thank you for having me. My visit to Karpenisi was intended to address pressing issues facing our healthcare system. When I arrived, I was met by protesters from PAME who were advocating for more recruitment in the Health Department.
**Interviewer:** It seems there was a moment during the protest that was both unexpected and touching. Can you describe what happened?
**Adonis Georgiadis:** Yes, it was quite remarkable. Amidst the tension of the protest, one of the demonstrators said to me, “ahh, you’re actually much more beautiful up close.” It was a light-hearted comment that broke the ice. I leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. It was a small gesture, but I believe it symbolized that while we might have our differences and disagreements, we can still be respectful and humane towards one another. We are not enemies, even if we are fighting for different causes.
**Interviewer:** This gesture has garnered a lot of attention. What message do you hope it sends to both the protesters and the public?
**Adonis Georgiadis:** I hope it conveys that open dialogue is essential, even in contentious times. We may have different viewpoints on how to manage our healthcare system, but we share a common goal—improving the health services for our citizens. Respect and understanding can lead to meaningful conversations and solutions.
**Interviewer:** What are the next steps to address the concerns raised by the protesters?
**Adonis Georgiadis:** We must continue to engage with healthcare professionals and the community to understand their needs. I am committed to working towards sufficient recruitment and better working conditions in our hospitals. It’s crucial that we listen, adapt, and act based on the community’s feedback.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Minister Georgiadis, for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us today.
**Adonis Georgiadis:** Thank you for having me. I appreciate the opportunity to discuss these important issues.
