Georgiadis: Living allowance of 2,100 euros and a free house for doctors who will choose islands – 2024-07-08 02:19:04

As announced by Adonis Georgiadis, doctors who choose to cover medically barren areas will have additional financial incentives from the Ministry of Health

Thus, according to what Adonis Georgiadis stated, with 2,100 euros more than their salary, the doctors who will choose islands or mountainous and remote health structures will be supported, while as an additional serious incentive, they will also be provided with free accommodation with the contribution of the local government .

The above measures were among the topics that dominated the working meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, on Wednesday morning (07/03/2024) at the Ministry of Health.

The announcements were made, however, by Mr. Georgiadis, at the 28th Annual Economist Government Roundtable, saying that the Joint Ministerial Decisions (JMA) regarding the exercise of private work by doctors, as well as the new form of incentives to cover them, are already ready the gaps, an issue that “burns” the government as tourism increases in the islands and summer destinations.

As iatropedia.gr informed you a few days ago, the government decided to take drastic measures, as all the announcements to fill the vacant organic positions on the islands are fruitless, due to the low interest of doctors and nurses to enter the search adventure residence at an extremely high price.

The provision of free housing under the care of the Municipalities, but also the increase in the financial remuneration of the medical staff, in the form of a “living allowance” which from 1,800 euros for doctors plus their salary now increases to over 2,000 euros, may increase the interest.

Salary increases are also coming
As Adonis Georgiadis said, referring to the island of Kos, “it is unthinkable to have 14 announcements, 4 positions for internists in the hospital and no interest, at the same time as we have many private internists on the island, who are obviously indifferent to the if there are pathologists to support public health”.

Georgiadis: “Difficult interventions are coming”
From the Economist’s platform, Mr. Georgiadis hinted that difficult interventions are coming to private doctors, to speed up the staffing of the islands.

“The health system is one thing”, he said characteristically, announcing that in the coming days a new strict intervention will be announced by the Ministry of Health, in order to normalize this situation of understaffing. The decisions are expected to settle this issue once and for all, he said.

Taking stock of his work, he spoke of a productive five months in the position of Minister of Health, while as he argued, the goal is “in 2025 the NHS will be a completely different, improved system”.

“Generally I believe, others will say it too, I’m not saying it myself, it was a productive five months, I can’t say we were bored. On the contrary, we have already done too many things. A lot that should have been done several years ago to be honest but it’s better late than never, everything will be done one by one now and within ’24 we will have a lot more to do”, he concluded.
