Specifically, the Minister of Health Ad. Georgiadis, wrote in “X”: “A while ago we had two pleasant news. The first one was from Kos, the president of the island’s Medical Association informed me that 3 private pathologists accepted to help the Hospital on call. After this decision of theirs, for which I publicly and from the bottom of my heart thank them, there will no longer be such a big problem in Kos as to require the implementation of the controversial provision that caused all the controversy. Across the country, dozens of private doctors came to help us in response to the Ministry of Health’s cry of distress. Also, from the information I received from IDIKA, the electronic prescribing system shows a normal activity, which proves that the vast majority of private doctors did not follow the calls to refrain from electronic prescribing. This abstinence, if it had been successful, would have caused enormous disturbance and suffering to the patients, which was finally avoided by the responsible attitude of the private doctors today. Both news prove that, together and in concert, we can tackle all the difficult issues we face from the Europe-wide shortage of human resources. The Ministry of Health and I personally pledge that we will continue the effort to build the new NHS in order to provide our fellow citizens with the quality health services they want and deserve.”
