Georgia will “immediately” apply for EU membership

Georgia will “immediately” apply for membership of the European Union, said the ruling party in this former Soviet country in the Caucasus which has delicate relations with Moscow.

This request comes after Ukraine requested its integration into the EU in the face of the Russian invasion.

The chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced at a press conference the “decision to apply immediately for entry into the EU”, adding that Georgia asked Brussels to “urgently consider this request and to confer on Georgia the status of candidate for entry into the Union.
