Tbilisi, Feb 6 (EFE).- The Georgian government announced on Monday the sending of 60 rescuers to Turkey, where devastating earthquakes have left more than 1,500 dead and some 5,500 injured.
“Georgian rescuers will immediately join the work on the ground to help their Turkish colleagues,” the Georgian Ministry of the Interior told EFE.
The decision to send aid to neighboring Turkey was made by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the Interior Department said.
Earlier, Garibashvili announced on Twitter his country’s readiness to provide “any help needed” to Turkey.
The Georgian chief executive also expressed his “deepest condolences to the people and government of Turkey for the lives cut short by the devastating earthquake.”
Tbilisi also reported that at least two of its citizens had died in the Turkish city of Antakya due to the earthquakes that shook the neighboring country.EFE
