ATLANTA, Georgia (Telemundo Atlanta) – Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced this Tuesday the suspension of the gasoline tax, as part of a state of emergency declaration, “to provide direct relief to families across the state” affected by high inflation.

The executive order will go into effect on Wednesday, September 13 at midnight and will remain in effect until 11:59 pm on October 12, 2023, Governor Kemp’s Office said.

“Consumers can expect the suspension to begin to have an impact on prices following several days,” says a statement from Kemp.

According to the Republican governor, the measure seeks to bring relief to state residents, affected by “the highest inflation in 40 years and negative economic conditions,” as a result of “policies coming from Washington, DC.”

The suspension of the excise tax will save Georgia residents approximately 31.2 cents per gallon for gasoline and 35 cents per gallon for diesel fuel.

When the gas tax was suspended from March to December of last year, Georgians saved approximately $1.7 billion, Kemp’s statement noted.
