Things are heating up on social networks around Georges-Louis Bouchez. The reason? The passage of the president of the MR in the reality show “Special Forces: who dares wins”, the first issue of which was broadcast this Monday evening on the Flemish channel VTM.

As part of this program, several personalities traveled to Morocco to measure themselves once morest the military training of the special forces, reputed to be the toughest in the world. In addition to the liberal politician, we can mention the presenter Koen Wauters or the former basketball star Ann Wauters.

A passage from the program broadcast on Monday particularly caught the attention of viewers. In it, a first evaluation of the candidates is made and concerning Georges-Louis Bouchez, it is declared that he “Thinks of himself first, not the team”. “You are a dead weight. That you represent nothing for the team, that’s one thing. But that in addition, you harm them, it’s unacceptable”they still say regarding him.

It was enough for Internet users to let go on Twitter, some drawing a comparison between these qualifiers given in the program and the political action of the president of the MR. “And besides, where are the IT copyrights? The nuclear extension? The MR at 30%?”quipped a surfer on Twitter. “Alexander De Croo Approves”tackles yet another.

Faced with these criticisms and mockery, Georges-Louis Bouchez wanted to react. On Twitter, he responded to an attack from a journalist who said:“When reality TV validates political analysis”. GLB’s response: “And if you were waiting for the next episode? Or too eager to attack me perhaps? But hey, I see that counter analysis is not dead… like what, certain traditions remain.”

The president of MR also returned to the subject this Tuesday morning, on LN24 where he was invited: “I’m used to the Standaard and the Morgen, which are left-wing newspapers”. Georges-Louis Bouchez reacted in this way to the releases of the two Flemish media which were very critical following the first episode broadcast. They claimed that the show painted a humiliating portrait of the politician. THE Morning says that it is seen as “pretentious” and that the show is a “television assassination”. Le Standard meanwhile concludes by saying that GLB talks a lot but does little.

On LN24, the president of MR added: “I will tell them to wait for the next episodes on the one hand. On the other hand, I do not see how I am being pretentious because myself, from the start of the show, I say that I had no physical preparation. I penalize myself since at the end of the first day, taking into account these difficulties, I refuse to be entitled to dinner because I slowed down the group. And you will see in the following episode that I’m someone who takes my responsibilities. Also remembering that it’s a game… And if the Morgen and the Standaard do their great political analysis on this basis, that says a lot regarding them. I invite the editor of these two newspapers to do the same exercise. Afterwards, we can judge”.

Not the first to participate in this kind of show

Note that in Flanders, it is not uncommon to see a politician appear in this way on the small screen. It is less usual in Wallonia but there are examples. Thus, the liberal Denis Ducarme recently participated in the program “Les traitors” on RTL-TVI. As for the first to have crossed the rubicon separating public governance and television entertainment, it was Michel Daerden with his Twelve works produced for RTBF.
