George Russell of Mercedes F1 finished the qualifying for the 2022 F1 Round 5 Miami GP in 12th place.
With multiple updates this weekend, Mercedes F1 seemed to be beginning to solve the problems it had in the early game, with George Russell setting the fastest time in his second free practice session on Friday.
However, on Saturday’s third free run, intense popping reappeared and George Russell was unable to be competitive.
“Today I felt like a completely different beast,” said George Russell.
“Today the car was much bouncing and as a result I mightn’t attack any corner. I’m sorry I showed good potential yesterday, but today I was far away.”
“I think the qualifying setup was pretty conservative to avoid the popping I experienced in P3, but I think it was just as bad. Bouncing was out in every corner, especially on turns 4 and 5. I mightn’t attack in the braking zone. “
“It’s fast when the car is in the window, and yesterday it looked like we might have a pole fight, but today was the worst qualifying of the year and it’s hard to understand.”
