ACTOR George Clooney asked Joe Biden to withdraw from the race for president of the United States (US), Wednesday (10/7).

The actor and top Democratic fundraiser said that while Biden has won many battles in his career, ‘The one battle he can’t win is the battle once morest time.’

Biden, 81, has insisted he is determined to remain the Democratic presidential candidate to face Donald Trump in the November US election.

Clooney, in a column for the New York Times, said, “As unpleasant as it is to say, the Joe Biden I met at a fundraiser three weeks ago is not the Biden of 2010. He is not even the Joe Biden of 2020.”

“He’s the same guy we saw when he lost the debate to Trump,” Clooney said.

A fundraising event hosted by Clooney in Los Angeles and featuring celebrities including Julia Roberts and Barbra Streisand, raised US$30 million.

In his column, Clooney said, “Our party leaders must stop saying that 51 million people don’t see what the rest of us see.

“This is just a matter of age, nothing more than that. We are not going to win the election next November with this candidate,” he continued.

Clooney added that all the members of US Congress he met had the same concerns.

Asked to comment on Clooney’s comments, the Biden camp confirmed that the US president had sent a letter to Democratic members of Congress saying he would still run in the upcoming US election and was optimistic regarding defeating Trump. (bbc/Z-1)
