George Campbell might hardly have chosen a better time to open his account with CF Montreal. The defender scored the only goal for the local favorites in a 1-0 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday night at Stade Saputo.
The American is not at all recognized as a maverick; proof, he now has only two goals in 53 games in Major League Soccer (MLS). After repeatedly knocking on the door in the last 10 minutes of play, CF Montreal was finally rewarded.

The Bleu-Blanc-Noir managed to bottle up the visitors in their territory thanks to several corner kicks and the ball finally arrived at the foot of a well-positioned Lassi Lappalainen on the right. In the 86th minute, the Finn spotted Campbell in the middle of the box and he did not hesitate to send the ball into the back of the net.
It was a great opportunity for CF Montreal to take revenge on the Revolution, which had emerged victorious from their duel in April by a score of 4-0. The Massachusetts club was also second in the AFC standings. East before this meeting, but had not stepped on the pitch for almost three weeks.
It also appeared in the first half, since no shot on target was recorded on either side. Jonathan Sirois had no stoppage to make in front of the “Revs”.
Montreal still ranks eighth in the East with 35 points. He is three points behind Nashville SC and the seventh place synonymous with direct qualification for the playoff tournament.
