A miHoYocreator of the famous game Genshin Impact, was yet another company that tried to “go over” the controversial fee (of up to 30%) charged by Apple to developers. This is what one reported new report from The China Projectwhich also highlighted that the two attempts were quickly “blocked” by Maçã.
miHoYo’s attempt to escape the fee charged by the American company began in August, when the developer instructed the support team of its official forum application — which gives players access to exclusive promotions related to the software — to direct users to do purchases through the official website.
Although with limited impact — basically only reaching users who got in touch to ask questions regarding payments — the strategy caught the attention of Apple, which temporarily removed the software from the App Store. Upon their return, the attendants no longer provided guidance on purchasing via the official website.
miHoYo’s second attempt, in turn, was through a microprogram launched on the Chinese payments app Alipay. Even though the announcement of the new method was limited to brief posts on the social network Weibo, Apple wasted no time and disabled the feature for iPhone users in September.
These attempts show that the apparently good relationship between Apple and miHoYo, whose headquarters were visited by Tim Cook himself on a visit to China recently, is not as rosy as imagined. Experts even believe that more companies will try to adopt similar tactics in the future.
