The match between Genoa and Juventus Turin, counting for the 6th day of the Italian Championship on Saturday (6 p.m.), will be played behind closed doors after violence in Genoa in the middle of the week on the sidelines of the Italian Cup, announced this Friday the local authorities.
On the recommendation of the Sports Events Observatory which supervises security issues, the prefect of Genoa has decided that the match will be played without spectators in the stands of the Luigi Ferraris stadium.
Wednesday, the derby between the Genoa and Sampdoriacounting for the round of 16 of the Italian Cup, was punctuated by clashes, before and after the meeting between supporters of the two clubs and with the police.
Forty-one police officers were injured during the violence.
A similar measure is expected to hit the next home game of the Sampdoria on October 4 against the Juventus Stabiaon behalf of the 8th day of the 2nd division championship.
“This is the kind of thing we don’t want to see anymore. When there is a match behind closed doors, everyone loses, the players, the coaches, the presidents and of course the supporters“, declared the coach of the Juve Thiago Motta before the closed session was made official.
Since the start of the season, several matches in Italy have been disrupted by incidents, firecrackers and other smoke bombs between opposing supporters.
Thursday evening, the start of the second half of the round of 16 of the Italian Cup between Naples et Palermo (5-0) was delayed for almost ten minutes because of firecrackers.
Before the 6th day, the Juventus is 4th with nine points but remains on three consecutive draws (0-0). THE Genoaeliminated from the Italian Cup on penalties by Sampdoria (1-1, 6 tab to 5), is 16th (5 pts).
