Gennuso travels to Spain to promote Bariloche as the venue for the 2027 World Expo

Bariloche is determined to carry out multiple actions to ensure that the city is chosen as the headquarters of the World Expo 2027 and now with a local delegation, headed by the mayor Gustavo Gennuso, the application will be promoted in the International Tourism Fair to be held next week in Madrid, Spain.

The mayor together with the governor Arabela Carreras and other officials, including the Minister of Tourism of the Nation, Matías Lammens, They have already been in France twice to carry out the application of Bariloche, which is the city chosen by Argentina for this world event that mobilizes some 2 million people in three months.

As reported by the municipality, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Río Negro, “the application to host Expo 2027 will be strongly promoted” in FITUR in Madrid between January 18 and 22.

At the fair there will be European delegates from the International Exhibition Bureau (BIE), who are the ones who must make the decision to choose the city to host the event.

“This is one new stage of negotiations that the Argentine Government, that of Río Negro and that of Bariloche are carrying out jointly, with the objective that Bariloche is chosen by the BIE jury”, highlighted the municipality.

Bariloche competes with Belgrade (Serbia), Malaga (Spain), Minnesota (USA) and Phuket (Thailand). The final decision on who will host the World Expo will be known in June.

Last year, Gennuso’s last trip to Paris for the World Expo, generated controversy in the Deliberative Council where a narrow permit was granted and there was criticism from the opposition.


Tourism promotion to attract Europeans


In parallel, Bariloche will be promoted as a tourist destination at FITUR, a fair that is attended every year by a local delegation promoted by the Mixed Entity for Tourism Promotion, to bring the attractions of the Río Negro mountain range to Europe, in search of attracting more tourists. foreign.

The Madrid fair is the first annual meeting for world tourism professionals and for the receptive and issuing markets of Latin America. The activities are concentrated in five days.

Weeks ago, the Executive Director of Emprotur, Santiago Díaz Vélez, announced among the objectives of the entity the search for foreign markets to promote the arrival of tourists from different countries, especially from Europe and North America.

The Argentine entourage, which includes Minister Lammens and the municipal Tourism Secretary, Gastón Burlon, will be made up of more than 140 people who will show the country’s destinations.

During the development of FITUR, training will be carried out in Bariloche for tour operators, meetings will be held with various airlines and operators from different European points; and the destinations are published in the Spanish press.
