GenIA conquers the Brazilian market with promise of productivity

Many companies in Brazil have overcome major concerns about generative artificial intelligence and are using the technology to increase their productivity, according to a new research report published today by the Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a leading global technology research and consulting firm.

The ISG Provider Lens™ Generative AI Services 2024 report for Brazil reveals that the growth of GenIA in 2022 and 2023 was initially met with fear, skepticism and organizational prohibitions. Since then, companies have realized that problems such as hallucinations, data leaks, copyright violations and unpredictable costs can be solved.

“GenIA use cases in Brazil have generated extraordinary results,” said Steve Hall, president and director of AI at ISG. “Service providers have largely removed barriers to adoption, and GenIA is poised to make businesses more competitive.”

Companies in Brazil are implementing several applications that use GenIA’s ability to “learn” from large volumes of structured and unstructured data, including text, images and audio, according to ISG. In addition to summarizing content and answering questions about data, GenIA can build databases and generate analyses, which can include graphs and maps. One of the most valuable applications GenIA has unlocked is personalized, automated customer service, which is replacing old service bots.

Technology is also changing the way companies in Brazil carry out software development in Brazil, according to the report. It can translate legacy programming languages into modern ones, facilitating the migration of applications to cloud environments. GenIA also automates parts of the development cycle, such as generating test documentation and identifying faults, leading to significant productivity gains.

Brazilian companies are investing in development and implementation services to minimize the challenges of launching GenIA, says ISG. For example, vendors are helping large companies concerned about data breaches, hallucinations, biases and inadequate material to implement control procedures. Many midsize companies that lack the data maturity to develop custom solutions are adopting pre-packaged solutions as fast and efficient entry points to GenIA adoption.

The growing acceptance of GenIA in Brazil has also increased demand for strategy and consulting services that help companies integrate it into their organizations, according to the report. Vendors are helping large organizations identify the business problem at hand, evaluate the viability of GenIA as a solution, and define an implementation strategy. Many midsize companies, such as law firms, are turning to vendors for expert guidance in organizing and preparing their data for use with GenIA.

“Executives in Brazil want to avoid either using GenIA as a generic solution, or being overly cautious and falling behind competitors,” said Jan Erik Aase, partner and global leader of ISG Provider Lens research. “Service providers can play a key role in guiding them to success.”

The report also examines other GenIA trends affecting Brazilian companies, including the emergence of digital agent generation platforms and considerations for GenIA in highly regulated industries.
