Genève-Servette Signs Finnish Goalkeeper Jussi Olkinuora to Bolster Their Roster

Genève-Servette has scored a big hit on the transfer market. The Garnet club has signed goalkeeper Jussi Olkinuora (33) from the Lahti Pelicans (Finnish D1) until the end of the season.

Olkinuora will be able to make his debut on Tuesday in the Champions League, during the quarter-final return that the Swiss champions will play in Sweden against the Växjö Lakers (4-1 first leg victory for the Genevans at Les Vernets).

This is not the first time that we have heard in Switzerland of the arrival of the Finnish goalkeeper, since in the summer of 2022, he was close to joining Biel, with whom he had even signed a contract. But ultimately, the 2022 Olympic champion then tried his luck – without success, having only been aligned in the AHL – in Detroit in the NHL.

Make up for the absences of Descloux and Mayer

Olkinuora has often shone with his national team. He won two gold medals at the Worlds with Finland (2019, 2022) as well as the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. During his second world title, the new Servettian recruit was named MVP and was part of the All-Star Team.

Prior to his arrival in Geneva, Jussi Olkinuora conceded just 12 goals with a save rate of 92.4% in his last eight matches for Lahti.

Genève-Servette had to react after the recent injuries to its two goalkeepers, Robert Mayer and Gauthier Descloux. During the last National League match, Saturday in Rapperswil, the Servettian cage was defended by Remo Giovannini, regular goalkeeper of HC Sierre.
