The Lake Parade rises from its ashes! Six years following its last edition, the City of Geneva has confirmed that it has accepted a request from former organizers to relaunch the machine. The high mass of electronic music, its floats and its procession of tens of thousands of revelers will brighten up the harbor on the followingnoon of Saturday 15 July. As in its finest hours, the mobile event will continue into the evening in a static form: from 6 p.m., the “Lake Sensation” will make the Quai Gustave-Ador dance. On Sunday, July 16, “The After Lake sensation” will take place, including a brunch for families punctuated by musical entertainment.

It is Christian Kupferschmid, the historic boss of the raout, who is leading this resurrection, following a break due to the difficulty of financing the event, then to a certain weariness, and finally to the Covid. But “during confinement, my whole universe stopped”, and the desire returned. So here he is pumped up to ride this new Lake. “This is excellent news at a time when so many people are complaining, with the disappearance of the Fêtes and the pre-Fêtes, that nothing is happening in Geneva anymore.”

“David Guetta asked us for 5000 euros!”

He counts on “ten to fifteen tanks, all in the electro theme”, but with “perhaps fewer alternative types like hardcore, trans or goa than during the last editions. It was necessary that we bring novelty while pleasing the public of the beginnings, twenty-five years ago. Several vehicles should be cornered by the big Geneva and Vaudois clubs of the moment. In terms of DJs, Christian Kupferschmid will focus on “new talents, French-speaking and foreign, that’s the vocation of this type of event. When we started, for example, we had David Guetta, he asked us for 5,000 euros!”

A large stage for 30,000 people

The Lake Parade, as in the past, will begin at Parc Mon-Repos to end in front of Parc des Eaux-Vives. There, she will mutate into Lake Sensation. A large stage will be set up on the esplanade in front of Eaux-Vives beach (where the event will not encroach). The space must be able to accommodate 30,000 people. And the next day will be dedicated to brunch. “We will remain very family. There will be music from the 80s and Latino, a few concerts too, ”explains Christian Kupferschmid, who is also counting on this second day to cover his expenses: if the whole weekend is free, the food and drink stands , they weigh regarding two thirds of an announced budget “a little less than one million francs”.

“Important to have an event for young people”

Funding is private. The City of Geneva, for its part, authorizes the increased use of its public domain while asking the organizers to pay particular attention to green spaces. “It seems important to me to have a public and free event that is aimed primarily at young people, even if this event also appeals to a wider section of the population”, rejoices the mayor of Geneva, Marie Barbey-Chpuis. Christian Kupferschmid’s wish is to permanently reinstate the Lake Parade in the festive landscape of the end of the lake. “We don’t want to do a one shot, he says, because we have the feeling that with these big parties, we really meet people’s expectations.”
