Organizers said this was due to “uncertainties in the global economy and geopolitics”.
The Standing Committee of the Geneva International Motor Show has announced that the 2023 Geneva Motor Show would take place exclusively in Doha, Qatar. This means that the event which was to take place in Geneva in February 2023 has been cancelled.
« Due to the uncertainties of the global economy and geopolitics, as well as the risks associated with the development of the pandemic, the organizers have decided to focus exclusively on planning the event in Doha in 2023 said Maurice Turettini, President of the Foundation.
As confirmed in April, the 2023 Geneva Motor Show was scheduled to take place from February 14-19, 2023. Turettini said he did everything he might to organize the Geneva event which was to have an improved format. However, ” the risks outweighed the opportunities Turettini concluded.
The second show in Qatar still in progress
The 2023 Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar will make its global debut in November 2023. No specific date has been set, but it will take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). Several other decentralized sites will also be set up, which should offer various unique and spectacular driving experiences.
« We are now fully focused on hosting GIMS in Doha and look forward to confirming the dates and format of this groundbreaking event with our partners at Qatar Tourism soon. added Sandro Mesquita, CEO of the Geneva International Motor Show.
The Geneva International Motor Show has been on and off since the start of the pandemic in 2020. The announcement in 2020 was so abrupt that organizers had to hold a virtual auto show. The last successful GIMS took place in 2019.
In 2021, GIMS organizers announced the birth of a second venue for the event in Doha, Qatar. The biennial event was conceptualized in partnership with Qatar Tourism.
