Geneva: His emerald stolen in 1989 once again escapes him

Born in 1887, Victoria Eugénie, granddaughter of Queen Victoria of England, married King Alfonso XIII of Spain in 1906. She loved jewelry, especially emeralds, according to several specialized sites. The sale of some of her precious stones would have allowed her to buy, in the 1950s, the villa Vieille Fontaine, in Lausanne, where she lived until her death in 1969. As for the origin of the emerald cross , it seems to come from the collection of the Spanish royal family. She would then have passed through France and England, before returning to Spain, by inheritance, in the hands of Victoria Eugénie. The precious jewel would then have been sold, shortly following the departure in exile of the Spanish royal family, in 1931. The granddaughter of the monarch would have received it as a gift from her rich father-in-law in 1984.
