(Keystone-ATS) The Geneva Grand Council approved the government’s 2024-2028 public transport action plan on Friday. This strategy provides in particular for an increase in TPG supply of 29% during this period.

This roadmap was produced on the basis of the conclusions of a citizens’ forum, a consultation of municipalities and an audit of the courts of accounts of Geneva, Vaud and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It also results from the States General of Mobility launched by State Councilor Pierre Maudet.

The action plan provides for a strengthening of the tramway offer with cantonal and cross-border extensions as well as the trolleybus offer. Rates and time ranges will be improved. The Council of State also intends to continue the electrification of buses. The offer and capacity of the Léman Express will be strengthened.

The PLR believes that this ambitious action plan will respond to growth. The UDC, for its part, fears that this plan will come to fruition to the detriment of the car. On the left, the socialists would have wanted a real paradigm shift. Everyone stuck to their positions, but in the end, the resolution approving this action plan was unanimously accepted.
