A general strike in the occupied West Bank, including east Jerusalem, took place this Wednesday in protest of the more than 8,800 Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israel’s war against militias in the Palestinian enclave. The initiative was called by Fatah, the party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which governs small areas of the West Bank.

The strike included the “closing of universities, banks and businesses, as well as calls to intensify the confrontation with the occupation on all fronts, in defense of the Palestinian people, their sacred right to freedom and independence,” the official news agency reported. Palestinian news, Wafa.

Anger among Palestinians increased on Tuesday after an attack by the Israeli Army with one-ton missiles against the Jabalia Palestinian refugee camp, north of the Strip, in which at least 145 people died according to Gazan hospital sources. The attack was repeated this Wednesday with a new bombing that left “dozens” dead according to Hamas.

Since the outbreak of war on October 7, other strikes have already been called in the occupied West Bank and 128 Palestinians, including 36 minors, have been killed by Israeli fire or attacks by Jewish settlers. In addition, more than 1,600 Palestinians were injured in the West Bank in the same period.
