During this meeting, which is part of a tour starting from the city of Dakhla to include various parts of the Kingdom with the aim of shedding light on the statistical process, Mr. Al-Halimi stressed that all the necessary conditions have been provided to ensure the success of this major event, which Morocco has been accustomed to carrying out every ten years, in implementation of the royal instructions contained in the letter of His Majesty King Mohammed VI addressed to the Head of Government.

During the meeting, which was attended in particular by the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, the Governor of Oued Eddahab province, Ali Khalil, the Governor of Awsard province, Abderrahmane El Jaouhari, the President of the Regional Council, Khattat Yanja, in addition to the Presidents of the Territorial Councils, representatives of external interests, elected officials and civil society actors, he pointed out that the general population and housing census is the reference basis that provides information that enables the determination of growth capacity, stressing that given its comprehensive nature, it will allow the determination of the situation of each individual residing in the Kingdom, as well as their living conditions and the situation of the country in various aspects and at all levels.

In this context, the High Commissioner for Planning added that preparatory cartographic work is essential to complete the census and ensure its comprehensiveness, explaining that this tool was distinguished in drawing the 2024 census by adopting an integrated information system that enabled updating the content of digital maps and mapping buildings, economic establishments and collective equipment using digital panels and relying on high-resolution satellite images.

In the same context, Al-Halimi pointed out that the High Commission for Planning has completed, for this seventh census of its kind, two maps, the first of which concerns buildings, where the map localization process has enabled, for the first time, the geographical localization of 4,138,900 buildings in urban areas and more than 33,682 douars in rural areas, which will ensure comprehensive coverage of families during the census, without omission or duplication in the counting process.

Al-Halimi explained that the second map relates to economic and socio-cultural institutions (mosques, cultural centers, etc.), collective facilities (public administrations, schools, hospitals, etc.), associative institutions (associations, unions, etc.) and weekly markets.

Al-Halimi stressed that implementing this process using a mobile geographic information system, the results of which, after publication, will allow users to produce dynamic and interactive maps via a dedicated platform, providing detailed information on the demographic structure and characteristics of various economic activities at the territorial level.

Earlier today, the High Commissioner for Planning chaired in Dakhla the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters of the regional directorate of the High Commission for Planning for the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, as part of the modernization of the means made available to the Commission and within a larger project consisting of the comprehensive digitization of all statistical information production lines.
