General Motors issues a sales suspension for two of its new SUVs

GM has issued a sales suspension to dealers, prohibiting them from selling new model 2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models until a new problem that has arisen has been fixed.

NHTSA revealed that General Motors recalled Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Acadia SUVs for LATCH child seat anchorages that do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Some of the four lower LATCH anchors on the bottom of the rear seats may have been finished with too much powder paint, making the anchor bars thicker than necessary.

That might make securing a second-row child safety seat more frustrating for parents, caregivers and firefighters.

The recall covers 668,187 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinoxes and thousands (figures were not released) 2020-2023 GMC Terrains.

Until the anchors are sanded and repaired, GM recommends that owners use child restraints with the rear seat belts, as illustrated in the owner’s manual.

GM is not aware of any warranty claims or customer issues with the condition, although it did find that 56 of 72 GM employee-owned cars had lower LATCH anchors that were too thick.

The 2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain have already been recalled three times, all for various seat-related issues.

Our work team DOES NOT recommend any new General Motors model, due to the number of manufacturing defects that vehicles assembled by the manufacturer can cause.
