General Motors competes with Tesla with the electric Blazer

Outperform competitors

This trio of cars might lead General Motors to outperform all competitors, including the market leader, said John Murphy, an analyst at Bank of America Securities in his “Auto Wars” report. Tesla”, in electric vehicle sales by 2025; Murphy predicts that by then General Motors will have more than 14% of the electric vehicle market share in the United States and that the company “Ford Motor(Ford Motor) will slightly lead Tesla by more than 10%.

Range of Blazer

The range of the Blazer, a major selling point for electric cars these days, will outstrip Tesla and match other competitors such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E; The Tesla Model Y costs nearly $66,000 and travels 318 miles per charge. The RS version of the Blazer, which has a range of 320 miles, costs $52,000.

One of GM’s problems is that its dedicated battery, which appears following other models come to market, doesn’t offer much better range than its traditional competitors. The $45,000 Blazer version is more than $1,000 more than the Ford, and both drive 247 miles per charge. The premium versions of both cars have similar extended range – and similar price points.

“At every price point, the range is roughly the same as that of the Mac-e,” said Sam Abu Samid, principal analyst at research firm Guidehouse Insights.

However, GM says the Silverado electric truck will have a range of 400 miles, which is better than Ford’s Lightning pickup because the company can put more batteries in the truck’s dedicated platform, but for For smaller models, performance is close.

20 models

Abu Samid said that the real advantage of the “Altium” battery will be in the ability of “General Motors” to launch 20 models globally in the next two years and build a wide range in a way that improves profitability quickly. In fact, General Motors has two battery plants in the United States and two more are under construction. At the start of production, this will lower battery costs for General Motors while other competitors continue to manufacture cells.

The platform might also enable General Motors to sell the Chevy Equinox small SUV next year starting at $30,000 and give mid-market buyers a vehicle with decent range and a spacious cabin. GM may be able to make money by doing so, according to Abu Samid.

Abu Samid added, “They can gain a profit advantage over Ford, and it will be an advantage for consumers when they launch the Equinox because they can sell it at a lower price.”
