General elections will be held on February 8 anyway: Caretaker Home Minister

Caretaker Interior Minister Gohar Ejaz says that the election is on February 8, no one should be confused regarding its holding. An emergency meeting of the Election Commission was held on the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which secret agencies including the interior minister briefed the participants.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja presided over the meeting. Secretary Election Commission Dr. Asif Hussain and senior officials of Election Commission, caretaker Interior Minister Gohar Ijaz, Interior Secretary Aftab Akbar Durrani, Chief Secretaries and IGs of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the meeting.

Representatives of intelligence agencies also participated in the meeting for a briefing on the law and order situation.

Interior Minister Gohar Ejaz briefed the Election Commission on the law and order situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The report regarding law and order in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was placed before the Election Commission.

The caretaker interior minister said that incidents of unrest in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were done to intimidate.

Talking to the media following the meeting, Caretaker Interior Minister Gohar Ijaz said that there should be no confusion in anyone’s mind regarding the February 8 elections, the Election Commission and the caretaker government will ensure the holding of the elections in any case and February 8. There will be elections anyway.

He said that the responsibility given to the caretaker government will be a red blood in it, the security agencies have made better security arrangements in the four provinces, the people should cast their vote with satisfaction, this election will bring stability in the country.

He said that the incidents that happened in Balochistan are not related to the election but they are incidents of terrorism, there is no political polarization in Balochistan, our biggest challenge in Balochistan is terrorism, security institutions like the security of the country. He is proud of what he is doing.
