[イスラマバード 11日 ロイター] – In the general election held in Pakistan on the 8th (Lower House, 336 seats), independent candidates supported by former Prime Minister Khan came in first place, winning 93 out of 264 seats. The Election Commission has announced the final results.
Mr. Khan is in prison on charges such as leaking state secrets, and the candidate of the main opposition Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI), which he leads, was not allowed to run as a PTI candidate, so he ran as an independent candidate.
Former Prime Minister Sharif’s ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Sharif (PML-N), came in second with 75 seats. Although it fell short of a majority, it won the most seats of any single party.
The future focus will be on the fate of coalition talks and whether independent candidates will be able to join small parties.
Confusion over the general election deepened, with Khan and Sharif each declaring victory.See more
