The Gedaref State Health Ministry warned of continued infections and deaths from kala azar in the state and recorded the infection of more than 4,000 people and the death of 93 others people who have had the disease since last year. Minister of Health in charge of Gedaref State, Ahmed Al-Amin Adam, revealed the cases of infection and deaths in Gedaref, which until the end of last year stood at 3,009 cases, including 64 deaths, noting that infection in children under 3 years old. age five reached 2,345 cases.
He confirmed that the total number of kala azar cases in his state during the first quarter of this year stood at 956 cases, including 29 deaths. He added that his state recorded the highest kala azar infection rate in Sudan at 85%. Kala azar is a deadly tropical disease transmitted by the sand fly. He explained that his ministry would present its treatment and control experience, which is carried out through 13 treatment centers in the state, where free care, nutritional health programs and medicines are provided to infected people.
He called on organizations and donors to contribute effectively and eliminate the disease that has cost hundreds of lives in Gedaref, stressing that there are extreme difficulties in implementing the campaign, which requires more than 500 million of books, or more than 300 thousand dollars.
