After the spread of a video clip of the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, during the annual dinner of the Batroun District Court in the movement, in which he says: “God is great, but Stephen has not passed away,” Bassil’s media office reported that “a fragment of a speech given by the leader of the movement during a dinner is being circulated.” The Batroun Judicial Authority in the Free Patriotic Movement and its interpretation in a context other than the relevant one.

He added: “The people of Batroun repeat this phrase as a way of courting Saint Stephen, the patron saint of the city. It is a common saying among Batrounians to the point that the late Bishop Francis Al-Bisari used to say it jokingly in the church on the feast of Saint Stephen.”

He concluded: “The Divine Self is above all considerations, and we, the children of the Church, know full well that no one is greater than God.”
