Starting today, China’s Golden Week holiday, which lasts for 8 days, begins.

A mass exodus of more than 200 million people is expected.

It is said that close to 13 million tourists will flock to Beijing alone.

China is hoping for economic recovery as sluggish consumption picks up during this holiday season.

Correspondent Lee Mun-hyeon reported from Beijing.

People were lining up to board the train at the entrance to Beijing Station, and the waiting room was also filled with people waiting for the train.

In China, the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day are the golden holidays until the 6th of next month.

The national movement begins in earnest from today.

It is expected that 190 million people will travel by train alone during the holiday season.

The airport is also crowded.

With group tours allowed around the world last month, the number of passengers traveling domestically and internationally is expected to reach 21 million.

In addition, the Hangzhou Asian Games, held for the first time in five years, also stimulated travel demand among Chinese people.

Local media reported that flight ticket and hotel reservations in Hangzhou and surrounding cities increased five and eight times, respectively.

As hotel prices rose due to increased travel demand, hotels began to flourish by installing beds, curtains, and air conditioners in staircase spaces, leading to crackdowns by the authorities.

National Day is considered the biggest golden holiday of the year in China, along with the Lunar New Year and Labor Day holidays.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, special holiday tourism has slowed down for three years due to strong quarantine controls, but with the shift to WithCorona this year, the Chinese government is expecting an economic recovery to pre-Corona levels.

However, consumer sentiment is not recovering, with sales of alcohol, which is considered the best gift, falling to only half of the previous year.

Chinese authorities are working hard to use this golden holiday as a stepping stone for economic recovery, including issuing shopping and lodging vouchers worth tens of billions of won to encourage consumption.
