GDP rose by 2.7% in the second quarter and increased consumption

GDP growth of 2.7% in the second quarter of 2023 in relation to corresponding quarter of 2022 ELSTAT announced today (06.09.2023). In compared to the first quarter this year there was growth of the Greek economy by 1.3% and increase in consumption.

It is noted that in the first quarter of 2023 there was an increase in GDP by 2% year-on-yearwhile there was no change between the quarters, according to ELSTAT data. Last year, growth in the second quarter was 7.1% year-on-year and 0.5% quarter-on-quarter.

Based on them quarterly national accounts, GDP up 2.7% in annual comparison was derived from:

Total final consumption expenditure showed an increase of 2% (household consumption increased by 3.2%, while that of the General Government decreased by 1.4%).

Private investment (gross fixed capital investment) increased by 7.9%.

Exports of goods and services showed an increase of 0.1% (exports of goods decreased by 1.8%, while exports of services increased by 1.3%).

Imports of goods and services showed an increase of 0.6% (imports of goods decreased by 1.2% and imports of services increased by 6.1%).

Between the second and first quarter, the following changes were recorded:

Total final consumption expenditure increased by 0.2% (household consumption increased by 0.9% and that of the General Government decreased by 1.8%).

Private investment (gross fixed capital investment) rose 0.3%.
Exports of goods and services showed a decrease of 1.2% (exports of goods decreased by 9.8%, while exports of services increased by 1.4%).

Imports of goods and services showed an increase of 1% (imports of goods increased by 1.4%, while imports of services increased by 0.2%).
