MANAGER of the largest sports complex in Indonesia, the Bung Karno Sports Arena Complex Management Center (PPKGBK) is implementing a waste control program (Waste Management) through a campaign entitled “Come Clean, Go Home Clean. Don’t trash #GuardGBK. If not us, who else?”.
The General Director of PPKGBK, Hadi Sulistia, said that the implementation of the “Don’t Litter #Take Care of GBK” campaign is expected to raise public awareness, especially GBK People, to start being wise regarding the waste they carry themselves.
“Management has prepared various supporting facilities in each unit to support the Don’t Litter #JagaGBK movement. The addition of more than 200 trash bins accompanied by new categories, the installation of banners calling for cleanliness at large-scale events, and the provision of waste processing sites. “The continuous improvement program, which starts with the cleanliness element, will continue to be promoted until a behavioral pattern of caring regarding cleanliness is formed by visitors and event organizers at GBK,” said Hadi.
According to him, the Don’t Litter #JagaGBK Campaign is a form of GBK’s commitment to presenting a continuous improvement program to increase awareness of GBK People (as GBK visitors are known) in implementing new habits of throwing rubbish in public spaces.
As is known, apart from being used as a place to exercise, the GBK area is also a venue for various world-class sporting and non-sporting events. There are around 400 events held every year in the GBK area which has a total land area of 279 hectares.
Ironically, the total quantity of waste at GBK originating from events reaches around 10 thousand cubic meters every year. GBK sees the urgency and is fully committed to waste control referring to GBK’s vision, namely to become a world-class sports area that is integrated, modern and environmentally friendly.
PPKGBK Main Director, Rakhmadi A. Kusumo emphasized that GBK is the only sports area in the center of the capital city of Jakarta. Various community activities such as sports, culture, education, politics, religion, and MICE at national and international standards have been carried out in the GBK area. GBK has been established firmly since 1962 with historical values, vision and the best quality infrastructure. For this reason, in the future GBK will continue to carry out world-class environmentally friendly continuous improvement programs.
“As the manager of the largest sports complex, GBK Management sees the high potential as a multifunctional sports area, and continues to have the ambition to create superior service innovations in the world while still paying attention to the function of managing cultural heritage and being environmentally friendly in order to optimize the use of state-owned resources and assets for the benefit of the community as widely as possible,” said Adi.
