THE number of deaths in Gaza increased to 30,717 people killed and 72,156 injured as of Wednesday (6/3). They are all victims of the Israeli invasion of Gaza since October 7.

In the last 24 hours, Israeli attacks have killed 86 people and injured 113 people in Gaza. Meanwhile, the ceasefire negotiations which were expected to stop this Israeli habit have reached a dead end.

Israel has not lowered its conditions for Hamas. Israel insists on asking for 100 hostages and is reluctant to leave Gaza as Hamas wants.

That is in addition to returning Palestinians displaced in Gaza to their homes and allowing the entry of humanitarian aid.

“We will continue to negotiate through our fraternal mediators to reach an agreement that meets the demands and interests of our people,” Hamas said in a statement.

Even though ceasefire negotiations continue in Cairo, Egypt, Gaza residents are waiting for good news. It is hoped that a ceasefire will be agreed soon to end the suffering and hunger.

Gaza residents describe Israel’s actions so far as like torture before death. However, the solidarity actions of the world’s population continue to resonate.

Most recently, the boycott of products affiliated with Israel has yielded results. For example, the Starbucks franchise company in the Middle East has laid off 2,000 or 10% of its total workers.

Human rights activists have blacklisted Starbucks, along with other Western brands including McDonalds, because they support Israel in the war in Gaza. Starbucks was targeted following the company sued the union that organizes its workers over pro-Palestinian messages posted on its social media accounts.

Kuwait-based Alshaya Group, which runs regarding 1,900 Starbucks franchise branches in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE, said it was forced to cut its staff.

“As a result of continued challenging trading conditions over the last six months, we have taken the sad and very difficult decision to reduce the number of associates in our MENA Starbucks stores,” said a statement from the group.

Starbucks, despite insisting that it has no political agenda and does not fund any government or military operations, has posted lower sales in early 2024 and suffered a major hit in its sales in the Middle East. (Z-8)
